What will you learn?
In our FX with Houdini course, we’ll teach you to master the advanced tools and techniques that professionals use to create stunning visual effects in movies, TV shows, and video games.
You’ll learn everything from the basics like creating emitters and attributes, to complex techniques like simulating fire and smoke, using microsolvers for precise adjustments, and integrating Megascans assets. Plus, we’ll guide you through preparing shaders, controlling temperatures, and final rendering to achieve high-quality results. This course is ideal for those who want to delve deeper into VFX simulation and take their skills to the next level with Houdini.

Marc Martinell
My name is Marc Martinell, FX artist. Since around 2018, I have been learning Houdini. The first few years were pure curiosity, which escalated to become a hobby, and finally my profession. For almost 4 years now, I have been doing it professionally.
Within FX, what I enjoy the most is animation, as it allows for a greater margin of creativity for the effects, without being so tied to reality. For this reason, I have been leaning more and more towards this sector, until I reached Walt Disney Animation Studios, one of the greatest exponents of animation today.
I like to see FX as the perfect balance between the artistic and technical branches, which often allows me to solve effects using code or mathematics. It is a great middle ground for those who, like me, like to do artistic work without leaving aside the technical aspect.

Level
Houdini is taught from a basic level, prior knowledge is not necessary but it is advisable to have a basic knowledge of geometry or 3D in Houdini or any other software. In general, each node that we place for the first time we will see what it does and some of its applications. Houdini is an industry standard and we will focus in depth on everything related to volumes.

Final project
Throughout the course we will see how to import and prepare the geometry, create an emitter and work with volumes to shape both clouds and our simulations, which will include both fire and smoke. The final project of the course will be done with the animation of a flying dragon, spitting fire and destroying a village.
