HOW TO GET A JOB IN ANIMATION? INSIGHTS FROM AN INDUSTRY PROFESSIONAL

My Advice for Aspiring Animation Industry

I recently participated in a podcast that interviewed artists from different industries. Before my interview, I watched several episodes to better understand the structure of the podcast. At the end of each interview, the guests were always asked the same question:

“What advice would you give to those who are just starting to pursue their dream of working in the animation industry?”

To my surprise, most of the professionals agreed on one answer: “Take the first step, go for it! Don’t wait any longer. Little by little, you’ll see how you master it.”

The Importance of Taking Action

At first I thought the answers would be more technical, like recommending exercises, references, or artists to follow. But upon reflection, I realized that taking action is probably the most important thing of all. If you start today, you’ll be one step closer to achieving it tomorrow.

I remember when I started studying animation. I saw professionals working in big studios in Spain, on films like Tadeo Jones, and they seemed unattainable to me, as if they were completely different people from me.

There is no difference: Everyone started like you

After working on great productions, I realized that the only difference between them and you is that one day they decided to take action. No artist working at studios like Sony or Disney is “special” or has a particular gift. They all decided to pursue their dream of working in animation, and that was the key to their success.
